The final table was still in its infancy when Thales Salomao opened to 450,000 and was called by James Ablott in the cutoff. Lee Kipling squeezed all-in for 12 big blind from the button with what turned out to be and only Salomao called, doing so with . Those ladies melted Kipling’s snowmen as the board ran and the first final table casualty was confirmed.
Salomao then sent Bryan Tismond to the rail in eighth place when his held against Tismond’s on a board reading , before turning quad aces on a board with to bust Ablott, who held .
Peter Craw then took up the role of executioner to end David Ridout’s tournament. Craw raised with before calling Ridout’s three-bet shove, a move made with , and was rewarded with a queen on the flop of the community cards.
Fifth-place went to Darren Knaggs who may count himself unfortunate to have bust how he did. Looking to improve his chip stack, Knaggs pushed all-in when first to act on the button while holding the lowly and Farnaby decided to call from the big blind with . Neither player improved as the dealer spread the onto the felt, which meant Faranby’s queen-kicker played and the tournament was down to four players.
Those four became three with the exit of Craw. A raise to 1,100,000 during the 250,000/500,000/50,000a level from Farnaby was three-bet all-in to the tune of 4,000,000 by Craw. Craw had made his move with , but those ducks were about to be shot down by Farnaby’s . The killer blow came on the flop of the board, boosting Farnaby’s stack to 20 big blind, seven less than Nadeem Hussain, and eight more than Salomao.
Hussain lost a few chips before losing out in a race to Farnaby who suddenly could do no wrong. Farnaby shoved from the button with and Hussain called from his seat in the small blind with . Farnaby flopped a set on the board before improving to an unnecessary full house by the river to send the tournament into the heads-up stage.
Heads-up was over almost as quickly as it has begun, thanks in part to Farnaby holding a 27,000,000 to 8,000,000 chip lead over Salomao. A couple of hands into the one-on-one battle, Salomao pushed his 7,200,000 stack into the middle with and Farnaby called with . The flop increased Farnaby’s lead, although Salomao picked up an inside straight draw. The on the turn was no help to either player, and when the fell on the river, Salomao bust and Farnaby was crowned the 2016 partypoker Grand Prix Poker Tour St. James’ Park champion.
